Dancing with Sea Lions
The Dancing With Sea Lions project began as a fundraiser for the 20th Anniversary of the Florence Events Center. The volunteers of the Florence Arts, Culture, and Entertainment nonprofit group (previously known as the Friends of the FEC) headed up this project in conjunction with the Florence Events Center Staff. Twenty life size sea lion sculptures were each painted by a different artist. All of them were displayed with their sponsors along the Oregon Coast till October of 2016, when they were then purchased by businesses and individuals. Fifteen of them are still publicly displayed in Florence and near by coastal locations. See our 'Where are they now' map for their current locations, and check our blog for updates. Share your Dancing Sea Lion pics with us and we'll add them to our Gallery of images.
FREE full color postcards, courtesy of Sea Lion Caves, are now available for pick-up at the Florence Events Center, Florence Visitor's Center, the Siuslaw Public Library, Sea Lion Caves, and numerous other locations on the Central Oregon Coast. The postcard, pictured below, features the 15 life size Dancing Sea Lions that are still on public display in Florence, Reedsport, Yachats, and Waldport. It shows their new locations so you can find them all easily. (If you discover any missing lions or changes in location, please let us know by sending an email to the volunteer website manager: jdlarson24@gmail.com. Thank you.)
Shortly after their debut, back in 2016, the Dancing Sea Lions were part of a Geo Cache event. The picture collage below was part of that event. There are numerous additional photos associated with this event now added to the GALLERY.
